I had not exercised consistently since college (over 14 years), had gained 30 pounds, and was plagued by chronic back pain which was significantly interfering with my ability to comfortably live my life. I was under a huge amount of stress and was told I was “pre-hypertensive," not something you want to hear in your mid-thirties. I had tried and failed many time to implement an exercise program and I knew I couldn’t do it on my own. I had never seen anything like One on One before and I was hopeful that it would change my life. I am happy to say it has, to a degree I could have never imagined!

The process of moving from a sedentary person to an active person is not an easy one. In learning how to move correctly, many underlying issues were discovered. My chronic back pain wasn’t just my back – it was my posture, my legs, my feet, my hips, how I sat, how I moved. Kym, Karin and Noel had to retrain me on basic things like walking and sitting – how embarrassing to be an adult and not know how to walk or sit correctly! But this emphasis on the “whole process” of moving and living is what makes One on One unique. One I mastered the basics, the chronic pain started to fade away.  I could confidently move through my life not worrying that a misstep or picking up my cat was going to send my back into painful spasms. I was enjoying physical activities and looked forward to working out, something I had never enjoyed before. 

Since joining One on One, I have lost weight, put on an incredible amount of muscle, reduced my stress and blood pressure, and feel stronger than I ever have. I regularly bike, hike and play tennis. Physical activity is a regular and fun part of my life. My long-term goal is to attend mountaineering school and do some serious climbing. If you had asked me 5 years ago what I would be trying to achieve in my 40’s, I can guarantee you climbing mountains would not have been high on the list!

I would recommend One on One to anyone who is serious about making a change in their life and willing to work to achieve that change. It’s not easy, but it is SO worth the effort.
