Nancy Doyle’s Experience

It was the summer of 2008 that I decided to take control of my life again. I had been through some very stressful, emotional events and I gained a lot of weight. My eating habits were horrible.

The first thing I did was make an appointment with my doctor to discuss how to go about getting back into physical shape.  I was very worried about all the health issues that come with obesity such as high blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol, etc.  I was just approaching the ranges where those could have turned into problems.  My doctor advised me to join a gym.  He said just dieting was not enough at my age (I’m 57).  After visiting him, I called a friend who was in terrific shape and asked her what the best State College fitness facility was.  She told me about One on One.

I asked her if she thought I could just buy some equipment and work out at home.  She gave me terrific advice and said, “No, you don’t have enough knowledge to do that.”  I didn’t understand what she meant then, but I sure do now!

I called One on One to see if I could stop by and see what the gym was like.  Jeff gave me a warm welcome as soon as I walked in. I expected to see a typical State College gym with a lot of college students on treadmills, bicycles, etc.  That was certainly not the case.  I witnessed people of all ages, but the most important thing I noticed was the personal training. One on One is the perfect name for the gym.  They really give you “One on One” attention.

As I finished my initial visit with Jeff, I thanked him and said I would think about it and get back to him.  I started to walk out the door and something just hit me that I said to myself “No! Don’t leave without making an appointment for a consultation!”  I turned around and said to Jeff, “I want to go ahead and make that appointment!”  It was one of the best decisions I ever made.

During my consultation, Jeff spoke to me about nutrition, exercise and the importance of commitment to the exercise plan.  He explained how everything worked at the gym and told me we could start in the next few days after they developed my program.

On August, 11, 2008 I started my exercise program at One on One and began eating right. Since then, I have lost 46 pounds, many inches, four sizes in clothing, and lowered both my blood pressure and cholesterol. I am much stronger and both my physical appearance and mental attitude have improved dramatically.  I accomplished much more than I ever expected in a short period of time. I feel wonderful!

The experience I have had at One on One has truly changed my life.  I have been encouraged by the entire staff from the day I started. They have been a tremendous support to me.  They answer any questions I have about exercise, eating and overall health issues. I feel like I learn something new about the human body every time I come in for an appointment with my personal trainer.  One on One is definitely a gym where they take a personal interest in their clients.  It is not just going to a gym, it is a place where I know they really care!

When I first considered coming to One on One, I was concerned about the cost. In hindsight, if you would have told me I could look and feel like this, I probably would have paid anything. I can’t thank them enough for helping me to improve my overall health.  I know I did the work, but without them I could not have done it.  They are amazing!
