What really sets Take Charge apart is that it doesn’t promise fast results — it promises real change.
I have been participating in One on One Small Group sessions for two and a half years and making great progress in strength building, mobility, and recovery (post knee surgery). During this time, I have grown muscle mass, changed my body shape, and lost weight. However, I hit a plateau and stayed at the same weight for over a year. One on One announced that it was creating a weight loss focused program and I immediately jumped into the beta. I signed up for One on One: Take Charge expecting another weight loss program with food restrictions, calorie counting, and a focus on goal setting. What I got instead was something far more powerful and long-lasting; a complete shift in how I think about my habits and my drivers for wanting to achieve a healthy weight.
The program doesn’t focus on the scale. In fact, I was encouraged to put it away and instead, the focus is on building a healthy relationship with food, movement, and most importantly, mindset. The foundation of Take Charge is mindset work and making informed decisions on eating habits including portions, substitutes, and the drivers behind why past attempts have not succeeded. Reframing negative self-talk, identifying eating triggers, and rewriting my internal narrative around successful habits is at its core.
Each week included guided discussions in an exercise group coaching session that felt more like friends providing support than fitness meetings. The One on One team didn’t shame or pressure anyone’s progress; they supported any progress with a focus on mindset changes to promote healthy eating habits. I was challenged to celebrate consistency over perfection and to view setbacks as part of the process, not as failures. I also met with the One on One registered dietitian to set up a food log, identify healthy eating goals, and have a private discussion on my individual challenges to help create healthier habits.
What really sets Take Charge apart is that it doesn’t promise fast results — it promises real change. And for me, that’s exactly what happened. I have always enjoyed exercise, and now I eat with awareness rather than mindless grazing. Yes, my body has changed, but more importantly, I have changed my habits around food.
I have tried fad diets, weight loss supplements, and quick cleanses with yo-yo results, but this program is a breath of fresh air. It’s not about losing pounds — it’s about losing the pressure of the scale numbers, the frustration, and the limiting beliefs that keep you stuck. This isn’t to say I haven’t already seen success; quite the contrary. With the habit changes of food logging, understanding why I crave to eat, and identifying healthy alternatives to my common foods I’ve lost 15 lbs in 8 weeks! The weight loss equates to a drop in 3.1% body fat which has changed my body shape. The downside is that I now must buy a new wardrobe! I’m not focusing on a goal number that creates an end to the race. By using the program focus areas I’m naturally achieving success through good daily habits and developing a life-long routine around food.
