In light of my 5th year anniversary, I’ve reflected on my professional journey and would like to share how One on One has impacted my life. I graduated from Penn State University with a degree in kinesiology and was eager to help people through fitness, but had difficulty finding a career path. I wasn’t interested in marketing myself, recruiting potential clients sounded daunting, and honestly, wasn’t confident I had much to deliver. Amazingly, I discovered One on One which provided 3 things: professional training through the training program, a stable clientele base, and an environment that would nurture my gifts and allow me to grow.
Five years later, I’m so grateful to be in the position I am today, and One on One continues to deliver in every way imaginable. It starts with the education, the depth of education is top of the line from the training program to our regular continuing education meetings. I learned more about fitness in the 6 week training program than I did in 4 years of university; everything from science, to the art of training, program design, client management, and communication that are all essential ingredients to becoming an exceptional fitness professional. It was the training program that initially drew me in, and now the education never ends as the ongoing continuing education helps me be the trainer/person I am today.
The position at One on One is very challenging because we set a high standard and have a growth mindset. However, we work together, support each other, and succeed together, as a team. This is what I believe truly sets One on One apart. The emphasis on teamwork and a growth mindset starts at the top and permeates throughout the entire organization. Our singular goal is to get the best possible wellness solution for the community we serve, and I’m pleased to play a key role in our success along with a great team of likeminded, competent people.
Finally, I want to comment about the wonderful community One on One has created. Since training hundreds of people in our great community, it is gratifying to see our clients genuinely love and value the One on One experience. I was struck by the strength of the community when I started as a new team member. I remember being concerned that existing clients would be apprehensive about working with me, “the new guy.” Then, I was surprised by how little friction I experienced when I began working with them! The One on One community is so strong that everyone… clients and team members can be successful. The people I encounter every day make it easy for me to work hard and grow. Five years later, it is clear to me that One on One is truly a special place.
