Our Story
In 2009, financial security was at the forefront of everyone’s mind. Unemployment was rising, home values were declining, and uncertainty about the economy weighed heavily on families across the country and here in Centre County. With less disposable income, services such as personal training were often among the first expenses to be reduced or eliminated. One on One felt that impact directly.
During that challenging period, our founders, Bruce and Kym Burke, recognized an important reality. If their business was experiencing strain, local nonprofit organizations were likely facing even greater hardship. Rather than responding from a position of fear, they made the deliberate decision to strengthen their commitment to philanthropy.
From that decision, “Give Back” was established.
From the beginning, “Give Back” has focused its efforts on two local organizations that play essential roles in our community. Centre Volunteers in Medicine (CVIM) provides quality healthcare to low-income and uninsured individuals in Centre County. Youth Service Bureau (YSB) delivers mentoring, family support, prevention, and residential programs that strengthen children, youth, and families throughout Centre County.
Instead of dispersing small donations broadly, we chose to concentrate our efforts where meaningful and sustained impact could be made. The simple formula of “Give Back” has remained consistent: spend one dollar to raise two. By leveraging both our services and skills as well as our financial resources, we have creatively developed a program that goes beyond traditional fundraising methods.
Since its inception, “Give Back” has raised more than $650,000 in support of our community.
Making a Difference

2025 “Give Back” in Review
In 2025, “Give Back” raised $42,400 in support of CVIM and YSB. Below are some of the highlights:
Fun Bunch Workouts
Throughout the year, we hosted Fun Bunch Workouts, inviting clients to participate in group training-style sessions in exchange for a charitable donation. These workouts combined what we do best with what matters most. One on One team members led groups of clients through safe and enjoyable training sessions while directly supporting their community.
Trainer Bonus Program
The cornerstone of “Give Back” remains the Trainer Bonus Program. What began years ago as clients offering personal holiday gifts to trainers evolved into a structured initiative designed to amplify generosity in a meaningful way.
Clients make a donation directly to CVIM or YSB in honor of a One on One team member. One on One then matches that contribution in the form of a year-end bonus for the honored team member. The result is a program that reflects our culture at its best.
Clients are able to express appreciation for the professionals who support them throughout the year while directing their generosity toward two exceptional nonprofit organizations. Our team members receive recognition that honors both their skill and their service. Most importantly, CVIM and YSB receive substantial financial support that enables them to continue critical work within our community.
In 2025 alone, the Trainer Bonus Program generated $35,605. We are deeply proud of the trust our clients place in us and of the collective goodwill that makes this program possible year after year.
2026 Highlight
We began 2026 with a bang! Each year, we host a Blah Buster event designed to energize our community during the winter months. This year, we expanded it into a full day of events.
On February 21, we hosted a Blah Buster Day complete with two gatherings. In the morning, we opened our doors for an 80s-themed workout class that drew more than 50 participants. As music from the decade filled the facility, clients, family members, and friends dressed in retro outfits came together to laugh, dance, and enjoy a lighthearted experience that brought energy to the winter season.
That evening, the tone shifted from retro dance party to spirited competition as we hosted Trivia Night. Teams gathered to test their knowledge and compete for exceptional prizes, including tickets to the Journey Final Frontier Tour at the Bryce Jordan Center, 50-yard line seats to a Penn State football game, and gift cards to local businesses.
Blah Buster Day raised over $4,000. We are grateful to all who participated. We look forward to building on this momentum and continuing to grow the impact of “Give Back” in the years ahead.
