The purpose of our Focus Point of the Week series is to highlight and educate about important issues in all areas of our lives. For this week, we are going to focus on focusing!

Let’s face it, we are all busy and our attention is often spread very thin. We think about so much throughout the day that we can easily fall into the trap of never concentrating deeply on any one thing. Giving one issue our full attention, whether it’s something specific like push-up technique or something broader like planning our schedule for the upcoming  week, allows us to consider that issue more thoughtfully than we otherwise would. This invariably translates into more success, which in turn leads to greater motivation. Creating focus, both in and out of the gym, helps prevent us from falling into bad habits and allows us to continuously grow and develop.

The practice of focusing deeply on a specific issue can also help us feel energized to work harder to meet our goals. It helps us get in the “flow” of focused motivation and enjoyable hard work.

In order to enjoy maximum success:

  1. We must be involved in an activity with a clear set of goals. This adds direction and defines what must be focused on.
  2. We must have a good balance between the perceived challenges of the task at hand and our own perceived skills. We must have confidence that we can do the task.

Focusing on specific issues can help us feel “in the flow” in all areas of our lives. Consciously address focus prior to engaging in important activities and enjoy the very positive results!
